Players' code of conduct

Everyone who plays for Winterbourne agrees to this code when they join or renew. It follows the Spirit of Cricket and the ECB's Safe Hands policy.

On the field

• Play fairly and within the Laws of Cricket and the spirit of the game.
• Respect the umpires' decisions, even when you disagree.
• Respect your opponents, your team-mates and the ground.
• Never use abusive, discriminatory or threatening language or behaviour.
• Wear the right protective kit. Under-18s always wear a helmet when batting and when keeping wicket standing up.

Around the club

• Reply to availability when you're asked, and let your captain know as soon as you can if you can't play.
• Pay your subscription and match fees on time.
• Be welcoming to new players, juniors, visitors and supporters.
• Follow the club's policies, including safeguarding, social media and the bar's rules.
• Never drink alcohol or smoke around junior players while you're responsible for them.

Playing with juniors

• Remember juniors in adult games are there to learn and enjoy it. Encourage them.
• Follow the ECB's rules on fast bowling, fielding distances and helmets for players under 18.
• Don't message a junior directly. Club messages to juniors go through their parents.

If things go wrong

Concerns about behaviour go to the captain or a committee member. Concerns about a child's welfare go straight to the Club Safeguarding Officer. Breaking this code can lead to the committee taking action under the club's constitution.
